A Brownfield site is defined by the EPA as, “real property, the
expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the
presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or
contaminant”. Brownfield restoration provides a mechanism for
restoring abandoned or underutilized industrial and commercial
properties, while at the same time preserving open space.
