Underground storage tank (UST) and aboveground storage tank (AST) tank
closures in Pennsylvania are regulated under the Storage Tank and
Spill Prevention Act, Act of July 6, 1989 (35 P.S. §§6021.101 -
6021.2104). The closure requirements are outlined in 25 Pa Code,
Chapter 245 Administration of the Storage Tank and Spill Prevention
Program. Regulated tanks must be removed by PADEP licensed
contractors. There are specific sampling and reporting requirements
specified in the storage tank regulations as well.
